Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death.
Thirty years ago, Stephen Etre, an MBA graduate and former financial planner, opened Stephen’s, A Consignment Gallery at the loving behest of his wife, Kathy, so that he could follow what made him truly happy: The allure of collections, the intrigue of those that collect them and, of course, the satisfaction of selling! Indeed, Stephen’s, a Consignment Gallery, is the longest operating consignment house in Santa Fe.
Stephen’s is easy to find, just down the main drag that is Cerrillos, but it’s not an in-and-out shop. You should expect to spend at least an hour, but more likely two. It’s a large omnibus space with many rooms and innumerable treasures and curiosities that keep you engaged.
Stephen’s offers an abundance of furnishings, but what else Stephen has to offer goes way beyond that category. From couture luggage to tribal collectibles to original artwork by the famous yet departed, Stephen’s offers a walk between the experience of a museum and a lolling at Auntie Mame’s house, splendid with things you have always wanted to see and own, even if you didn’t know it. The gallery, located at 2701 Cerrillos Rd., is open Monday through Saturday 10-5, and Sundays from 12-5. Visit the website and email inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’re a classic, like him, you can phone him at 505-471-0802.
