An old truck actually shines a bit in a light afternoon New Mexico rain.  This August, New Mexico is enjoying record cooling, nourishing rainfall.

Temperatures  this year are still running almost 10 degrees above normal. Two storms in March dropped a couple of feet of snow in the mountains but this winter still ranks as the second driest in a hundred  years or so.We are told that Northern New Mexico reservoirs have plenty of water.

We are in the transition between late summer and early fall. It's a good time of the year.At the end of September we had a wonderful  24 hour rainfall  — 1.62 inches in Santa Fe and the first couple of inches  of snow up in the mountains.Early October we saw another storm which brought a good 1/2 inch of rain into Santa Fe while dropping about 4

Rainwater  flies out of a canale during  an afternoon monsoon rain.  While it is raining the temperature can drop up to 15 degrees.  These afternoon storms, accompanied by lightning and thunder, usually last about a half hour.  Afterwards the sun comes out and the world looks and feels pretty darn good.

On March 15, 12 to 18 inches of snow fell in the Santa Fe area, this was the largest snowfall in nine years. Santa Fe ski area reported 27 inches.As of mid March snowpack in the mountains above Santa Fe was 164% of average, good news for river rafters, fishers, fish, gardiners and just about everyone else concerned.
